Extend Your Network With Power Over Ethernet
NETGEAR ProSafe Switches with embedded Power over Ethernet (PoE) use a standard Cat-5 cable to power the NETGEAR ProSafe Wireless Access Points. Because wireless access points require flexible placement for maximum coverage, they are a practical solution for deploying where AC power may be unavailable.
Networks with PoE offer many benefits. PoE simplifies the installation of new functions, such as providing power for VoIP phones, IP surveillance cameras, and other IP-based- devices, since there’s no need to install new electrical outlets. It also eases management. Administrators control a PoE-enabled switch with a web browser or by SNMP, which means they can remotely reset or shut down networking devices, saving the time and expense of dispatching a technician. When powered by uninterruptible power supplies, the network cameras and VoIP phones continue to work if the main power goes out. The same is true of the PoE-enabled ProSafe Wireless Access Points deployed throughout your building. They continue their bridging functions during a power blackout, and maintain connections with any mobile laptop users on the network.
In addition, NETGEAR’s ProSafe PoE switches automatically sense and adjust for network speed and cabling type, provide connectivity to standard 10/100 Mbps Ethernet devices such as PCs and servers, and easily integrate into your existing 10/100 Ethernet Network. The ProSafe Wireless Access Points with built-in PoE offer “one-touch” set-up, extensive security features, and up to 108 Mbps performance. Plenum rated, the access points enable worry-free installation above drop-down ceilings and under raised floors, which increases the flexibility to extend the network into hard-to-reach locations. To optimize coverage, ProSafe Access Points feature a choice of detachable antennas that let you place the wireless access point out of plain view or extend the coverage of your wireless network. Finally, NETGEAR also ensures your ability to add switches and access points with PoE as easily as possible, thanks to their standards-based design and their simple set up and configuration with Smart Wizard.
